Canyon in Madeira

Ribeira Seca (Superior)

Unclassified · v1a2 III

Rappels: 2 · Max waterfall: 12 m · Min rope: 15 m

A route with only two rappels, small in number, though each is fairly long, which, despite some interesting verticality, offers little dynamism and reduced technical or scenic interest. Its technical interest is low and its aesthetic interest limited.

The canyon is suitable only as an introductory descent or an occasional exploration, not as a priority for commercial canyoning programmes; its main use is for practising rope techniques in a natural setting.

Current status

As of October 2025

A low-interest route with two rappels, best used for rope-technique training rather than as a destination descent.

Route notes

Not covered. No information is available on water flow, anchor condition, access or exit.

Anchors, flow and access change with every storm and every winter. Treat the current status as a snapshot and check the latest conditions before any descent.
