Advanced & Adventurous
Level 4 canyons feature longer and more demanding approaches (up to 1 hour on harder terrain), longer exits, multiple large rappels between 40 and 60 meters, very vertical terrain, and stronger water movement in some sections. Less jumping, more rappelling. Good physical condition is required, and guests should be comfortable walking for long periods with equipment. Being slightly overweight is fine if you can move confidently and steadily. Level 4 canyons are considered by many to be the most beautiful and rewarding in Madeira, with iconic canyons such as Vimieiro and NorteLana being favorites among experienced canyoners.
