Ribeira do Caldeirão Verde (Superior)

In 2017 the first 4 m handrail (MCD) could not be found but there were alternatives; the rest was fine. The first handrail can be done from a well-placed tree, and the last anchor of the 90 m fall is on the right side (the original anchor). On 9 November 2024 a recon from R1 to R7 placed 3 approach points, a tree anchor at R2 and a rebelay on the C110, so that 60 m ropes now suffice. Later in November 2024 some anchors still needed doubling and R4 was not in good condition; the right-bank R9 anchor can be hard to find: an alternative is to follow the left bank, turning right from R10. The maillons on tree anchors are mostly non-certified and in poor state; vegetation was cleared from R9 in November 2024. As of October 2025 the rope anchors need replacing and some points still need doubling.

Rockfall at R9 / the big drop. R9 on the right bank sends many stones down onto anyone at the lower rebelay or in the pool; the other anchor on the left bank below R9 is preferable. The big waterfall can be descended right, then left, then right again to avoid rockfall.

Approach. From Achada do Teixeira descend the path towards Ilha until a concrete plaque reading "SEMAGRAL" (Vereda do Segral); follow the trail to the third watercourse, where the canyon begins. R1 is 10 m from the entry point in the streambed, on the left bank, with rope and maillon.
