Canyon in Madeira

Ribeira dos Cedros (Médio)

Beginner · v2a2 III

Rappels: 4 · Max waterfall: 20 m · Min rope: 20 m

A rather uninteresting canyon because of the long walk between R3 and R4, despite the beauty of the surroundings.

Current status

As of November 2020

Strong post-rain flow; single-point anchors added to the existing rappels; the long walking section between R3 and R4 limits the interest of the descent.

Season and flow

Strong flow after rain (as in November 2020).

Anchors and re-equipment

Some single, non-duplicated anchor points were placed on the existing rappels in November 2020.

Official notes

R1: 15 m rappel from the levada into the stream. R2: 18 m rappel on the left bank (1 point). R3: 5 m rappel on the right bank (1 point). R4: 20 m rappel on the right bank (1 point).

Anchors, flow and access change with every storm and every winter. Treat the current status as a snapshot and check the latest conditions before any descent.
