Canyon in Madeira

Ribeira da Fonte do Louro (Superior)

Intermediate · v3a2 III

Rappels: 5 · Max waterfall: 50 m · Min rope: 30 m

The route involves long walks through well-preserved, beautiful nature but has little vertical interest. The descent is worthwhile for the pretty "Caldeirinha" waterfall, which falls onto the Levada do Caldeirão Verde.

Current status

As of January 2025

Natural anchors on R1 to R4, a single bolt at R5; scenic but not vertically interesting.

Anchors and re-equipment

R1 to R4 are on natural anchors; R5 is equipped with a single M10 bolt and stainless-steel ring.

Access and exit

Approached from point #3 following the published GPS track.

Anchors, flow and access change with every storm and every winter. Treat the current status as a snapshot and check the latest conditions before any descent.
